We the cookout

WE THE COOKOUT is a website that is ran by a collective of students at the UO who made stories that were uplifting BIPOC communities and people’s stories around campus and across the country.

STUDENT ATHLETE FEATURES

Our first campaign that we launched this fall was to showcase student athletes who have been activists for change on campus.

Jevon Holland. The writing was done by myself and Shyann Montgomery. The art direction was done by myself and Ameer Safadi. Photography was done by Scott Boldt. You can find the entire article here.

Our second feature was Cross Patton. He is a running back for the University of Oregon. He is the son of Big Boi, co-founder of OutKast. He’s known for his fashion and the leadership that he has brought to his team. You can find the exclusive one-on-one interview that he had with a member from UONABJ here.

National Association of Black Journalists - University of Oregon Chapter (UONABJ).

NABJ is an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of Black journalists worldwide. For the club, I was the social media director for two years where I ran all socials. I created stories/posts and go to different events to make sure that NABJ had the opportunity to have an input of what was going on around the campus and community.

NABJxWETHECOOKOUT SOCIAL MEDIA ROLLOUT

For wethecookout.com, UONABJ created a four day album re-creation promo with photos that were apart of a project that would be to feature ‘We The Cookouts’ website launch on UONABJ’s social media platforms.

THE PANEL

The Panel was a major project we worked on that was a was a sit down conversation that involved four different BIPOC clubs on campus where they discussed topics that were centered around topics like race, inequalities in the US, and going to a PWI (Predominately White Institution). The Panel was open for students to listen in and watch live and you can find the video here. It was filmed on a 360 view camera where you can turn your point of view for a different interactive experience.
